U.S. reporters get flu shots in CanadaI have a nephew in Toronto...quick, check out Priceline.com for cheap flights...
OTTAWA (CP) - It wasn't just news that American reporters were clamouring for during George W. Bush's visit to Canada on Tuesday.
Some White House scribes visited a downtown medical clinic to get a quick $20 flu shot. Flu vaccine is plentiful in Canada despite a severe shortage south of the border. The main vaccine, Canadian firm ID Biomedical's Fluviral, is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States.
About 48 million doses of flu vaccine, roughly half the anticipated U.S. supply, was unexpectedly withdrawn from the market because of bacterial contamination. The administration is still scrambling to make up the shortage, including placing orders with Canadian and German suppliers.
While reporters were getting shots, at least one protester was hoping Bush would follow suit. The demonstrator on Parliament Hill carried a sign reading, Bush: Get Your Flu Shot And Get Out.
